Screening Palleca tandu C’était Palneca : a film about life in the past in this village at the bottom of the Taravo valley, in the heart of the regional natural park of Corsica.
To go back in time, we will find those who grew up and still live in Palneca, to evoke in Corsican and French the past ages and places, the ways of life and the know-how of the elders of the high valley. We will ask them to speak to us to retrace the various aspects of local culture, language, religion, beliefs, festivals, the cult of death, the code of honour and the notion of family, of clan, work, days and seasons, the ancestral practice of “transhumance” or seasonal alternation, life in the mountains, winter at the beach, summer reunions.
There are still men and women in the village who are able to bear witness to this world, which is now largely over. Unfortunately, there are fewer of them every year. It seems necessary and urgent to us today to preserve, with their words in Corsican and in French, and their memories, a little of the life in the village and of the Corsica of yesterday to inspire and inform that of today…
Palleca tandu C’était Palneca is part of an attachment to the transmission, continuation and restitution: of language, memory, traditions, a way of life and a way of thinking. In our exchanges with the Palnecais, we will therefore focus on issues that concern everyday life as well as institutional, religious and ceremonial life, including: birth, baptism, love, family ties, marriage, clothing customs, singing practices, houses, the church and its bells, localities, bridges, trades, knowledge of medicine, the vendetta, death and funerals.
